Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed. MK 6:53-56
As I listened to the Gospel, hearing of the people pressing up to Jesus wanting to be heal, pushing each other to be the first to get to Jesus, fighting to be able to touch a tassel; I was brought back to my children as toddlers.
We have all experienced our children coming to us, running to cling to our legs when things just didn’t seem right. Our children came/come to us when they are hurt seeking help from us. Our children who look at us as those people looked to Jesus: a source of comfort, love, healing.
I sat up in my pew suddenly aware of an aspect of God I was beginning to understand better: God the loving Nurturer. This realization makes me wonder how much more I will become aware of this Lent, this Year of Mercy.
