“What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” MT 26:14-25
It must have been out of desperation that Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, but why? Why did he betray Jesus.
It is thought that Judas was a member of the Sicarii, one of the most radical Jewish terrorists groups. Was part of Judas’ willingness to betray Jesus because Jesus was not radical enough.
As God is Ultimate good, Satan is Ultimate evil; Judas opposes Jesus, betrayer and saviour. For Jesus to have saved the world he had to be betrayed, and by someone in his intimate circle.
How did it make Jesus feel when Judas kissed him? Jesus knew it was going to be him, Judas, a beloved Apostle, and Judas knew that Jesus knew. This man was someone that Jesus trusted to keep the money. When confronted by the Apostles that Judas was stealing, did Jesus dismiss it? Did Jesus confront Judas and hear some excuse that just doesn’t ring true?
Some of our faith filled moms have experienced the same betrayal by someone beloved and trusted. The pain is excruciating. It makes you feel dead inside, lifeless. Was that the same feeling that Jesus felt as he watched Judas identified to the soldiers? After Jesus’ death did Judas look at the coins and think what have I done, he trusted me, I betrayed him?!
