The son of a slave woman was born naturally, the son of the freeborn through a promise.  Galatians 4:22-24, 26-27, 31–5:1

Paul is writing to the Churches in Galatia, trying to clear up the controversy that comes up about how to interpret Mosaic law as a follower of Christ.   Paul has pulled from the Old Testament the story of Ishmael and Isaac to say that there was a time when we were born of bond women/slaves, earthly–sinful and now through the power of God we are all now born into the promise.
